The challenge of deciding when to stop in social media ethnography
by Yenn Lee
To be presented at the third workshop (#FAIL2016) at ICWSM-16.
Based on her own experience with various research projects, the author recognises a constant challenge in social media ethnography, which is the challenge of ‘drawing a line somewhere’. Line-drawing here refers to the act of determining an inclusion-exclusion principle, in terms of time frame, platforms, and degrees of the researcher’s own participation. This presentation is to share the methodological choices that the author has made to address this challenge, the rationale behind the choices, and the lessons learnt.
